Quick Facts:
At Bullhook Dental Clinic One of the top priorities include provision of quality oral health care for children and pregnant women. The promotion of oral health begins with a toddler’s first tooth and prevents a long history of costly and disruptive dental visits. One of the most preventable diseases in children is tooth decay. Cavities can start as early as 12-18 months of age causing pain and at times, inability to eat, speak, sleep and learn properly. Any early decay will stay with the child until he or she is 11-12 years old and all primary teeth are gone. Early and regular dental visits are the answer. Mothers can transmit dental caries to their children, making dental care a critical part of health care for pregnant women and women of child bearing age. Our dental providers, at Bullhook Dental Clinic, want to assist you and your children in making your dental health strong and beautiful.
Oral Health and Learning
“What amounts to a silent epidemic of dental and oral diseases is affecting some population groups.” Surgeon General David Satcher, PH.D. M.D.
The most prevalent unmet healthcare need among children and adolescents is the need for oral healthcare. Early tooth loss caused by dental decay can result in failure to thrive, impaired speech development, absence from and inability to concentrate in school, and reduced self-esteem.
Early childhood caries is an infection that can start as soon as an infant gets the first tooth. Caries can be transmitted from a parent to an infant or child. Your child should have routine oral health screenings from the child’s medical provider and/or a dentist to include the lips, tongue, teeth, gums, cheeks, and the roof of the mouth. The first visit to a dentist should be no later than 12 months of age.
Pregnant women should talk to their doctor about oral health. There are many hormonal changes that occur and are related to an increased chance of gingivitis. The impact of oral disease during pregnancy may affect the health of the unborn child.
Oral healthcare is a critical part of every person’s health.
The Bullhook Community Health Center Oral has added a Dental Unit to the existing medical practice. This will allow us to use a multi-disciplinary (Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and Dentists) working together to combat dental disease and promote prevention. The Dental Unit is located in the Atrium in downtown Havre. The address is 220, 3rd Ave, Suite 404 (2nd level in the Atrium). The phone number for the dental unit is 265-3021. The medical site is still 265-4541.
